What is M+ Global?

M+ Global is Malacca Securities’ all-in-one trading platform. It launched in 2023 to give Malaysians access to US and Hong Kong stocks. In 2024 Malacca Securities began folding its older Bursa-only app, M+ Online, into M+ Global, so local and foreign stocks now sit in one app. Most guides still treat them as two separate products. If you still use M+ Online, read how to switch from M+ Online to M+ Global.

Malacca Securities started in 1963 as Malacca Traders, became Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd in 1992, launched M+ Online in 2012 and says it now serves over 300,000 Malaysians. It won Best Malaysian Securities Platform at the PC.com Readers’ Choice Awards 2025.

Who owns M+ Global, and is it regulated?

M+ Global is owned and run by Malacca Securities Sdn Bhd (company no. 197301002760). The firm holds a Capital Markets Services Licence from the Securities Commission Malaysia for dealing in securities, and is a Participating Organisation of Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. Your Bursa shares are held in your own CDS account at Bursa Depository, in your name.

M+ Global fees explained, with real examples

Most M+ Global articles copy the fee table and stop there. The minimum fee is what really decides your cost, because on small trades the minimum applies, not the percentage.

MarketBrokerageMinimum per tradeTrade size where the % starts to apply
Bursa Malaysia0.05%RM8.00About RM16,000
US0.10%US$3.00About US$3,000
Hong Kong0.10%HK$18.00About HK$18,000

The full cost of a Bursa trade

On Bursa Malaysia you pay three charges on every contract: brokerage, the Bursa clearing fee (0.03%, capped at RM1,000) and stamp duty (RM1 for every RM1,000 or part of it, capped at RM1,000). Brokerage on Bursa trades has been exempt from service tax since 1 January 2022.

Trade valueBrokerageClearing feeStamp dutyTotal (one side)
RM5,000RM8.00 (minimum)RM1.50RM5.00RM14.50 (0.29%)
RM20,000RM10.00RM6.00RM20.00RM36.00 (0.18%)
RM50,000RM25.00RM15.00RM50.00RM90.00 (0.18%)

You pay these when you buy and again when you sell. On a RM5,000 position the round trip is about RM29, so the share price has to rise roughly 0.6% before you break even. Fewer, larger trades cost less in percentage terms than many small ones. More detail: M+ Global Bursa fee guide.

US and Hong Kong costs most guides leave out

  • Currency conversion. You deposit ringgit, and the app converts to USD or HKD when you buy foreign stocks. The conversion spread is a real cost on top of brokerage, so check the rate shown before confirming.
  • Exchange and regulatory fees. US and Hong Kong exchanges add small fees of their own, and Hong Kong charges stamp duty on both buys and sells. These appear on your contract note.
  • US dividend tax. Malaysia has no tax treaty with the US, so the US normally withholds 30% of dividends paid to Malaysian investors. A 4% US dividend yield works out to about 2.8% for you.
  • Margin. US and HK margin financing is charged at 8% a year. Read how M+ Global margin works before using it.

Trading hours in Malaysia time

MarketHours (Malaysia time, MYT)
Bursa Malaysia9:00am–12:30pm and 2:30pm–5:00pm, Monday to Friday
Hong Kong (HKEX)9:30am–12:00pm and 1:00pm–4:00pm (same time zone as Malaysia)
US (NYSE/NASDAQ)9:30pm–4:00am during US daylight saving time (about March to early November); 10:30pm–5:00am the rest of the year

Bursa trades settle on T+2, two market days after the trade. Make sure the cash is in your account by then, or sell before settlement.

How to use the M+ Global app: the 5 things you’ll do most

1. Deposit money

Go to the funds or deposit section, choose online banking (FPX) for near-instant funding, enter the amount and approve it in your bank’s app. Manual bank transfers take longer to show up. You deposit in ringgit even if you plan to buy US or Hong Kong shares.

2. Buy a stock

Search the stock name or code, tap Buy, choose an order type (limit is safer than market for most people), enter the price and quantity, and confirm. On Bursa, 1 lot = 100 shares.

3. Sell a stock

Open your portfolio, pick the holding, tap Sell and set your price. Conditional orders let you set a take-profit or stop-loss in advance, so you don’t have to watch the screen.

4. Apply for IPOs

M+ Global handles Bursa IPO applications in the app and was the first in Malaysia to offer IPO financing, which lets you apply for a larger allocation. Guide: How to subscribe for IPOs on M+ Global.

5. Withdraw money

Request a withdrawal to the bank account registered under your name. Sale proceeds can only be withdrawn after the trade has settled. Guide: M+ Global withdrawal steps and timing.

Is M+ Global right for you?

  • Good fit: Malaysians who want Bursa and US/HK stocks in one place, regular Bursa IPO applicants, Shariah-conscious investors, and anyone who wants a human remisier to call when something goes wrong.
  • Less ideal: people who only buy a few hundred ringgit of shares at a time (the minimum fee bites), and investors who want markets beyond Malaysia, the US and Hong Kong.
