Why Is Malaysia’s IPO Market Bucking the Regional Slump?

Malaysia took 38 of the region’s 56 listings in the first nine months of 2026. Those 38 IPOs raised US$1.62 billion (RM6.56 billion, based on US$1=RM4.05).
The same period last year saw 37 listings raising US$992 million (RM4.02 billion). Malaysia added one more listing and lifted proceeds.
How Did Malaysia Perform in 3Q 2026?
Malaysia recorded nine IPOs in the third quarter of 2026, raising US$167.2 million (RM677.2 million). In the same quarter last year, eight IPOs raised US$94 million (RM380.7 million).
Here is how Malaysia’s neighbours compared in 3Q 2026:
- Singapore: 8 IPOs raising US$1.28 billion (RM5.18 billion)
- Indonesia: 7 IPOs raising US$121.3 million (RM491.3 million)
- Thailand: 3 IPOs raising US$21.3 million (RM86.3 million)
Where Did Southeast Asia’s IPO Market Slow Down?
Southeast Asia recorded 56 IPOs raising US$3 billion (RM12.15 billion) in the first nine months of 2026. That is a 26% decline in volume and a 13% drop in value year-on-year.
In 3Q 2026, the region recorded 20 IPOs raising US$500 million (RM2.03 billion), against 26 IPOs raising US$2.1 billion (RM8.51 billion) a year earlier. EY’s Asean IPO leader Chan Yew Kiang said “except Malaysia, IPO transaction counts across Southeast Asia slowed.”
Chan cited regulatory reforms, a muted economic outlook and geopolitical uncertainties. Singapore’s Equity Market Development Programme (EQDP), introduced in February 2025, injected liquidity, but Chan said “more needs to be done by corporates to improve liquidity and post-IPO performance.”
What Do Global IPO Numbers Mean for Asia-Pacific?
Globally, 908 IPOs raised US$290 billion (RM1.17 trillion) in the first nine months of 2026. Deal volume fell 2%, but proceeds rose 153% year-on-year.

What Is EY Telling Issuers and Investors?
EY Capital Markets representative Nghia Trung Nguyen said “the stronger proceeds are encouraging and point to continued investor appetite for quality companies with compelling growth prospects.” He added that issuers must be realistic about market timing as investors become more selective.
Nguyen said a compelling business proposition, strong fundamentals, good governance and a clear growth strategy remain crucial for a successful listing. These factors also determine whether investor confidence holds after the IPO. Analysts note that post-listing performance is what new Bursa names will be judged on.
