If you’ve changed your phone number, moved house, or switched email providers, you need to update those details on your M+ account. I handle these requests almost weekly, and I can tell you the most common mistake is updating only one system and wondering why confirmation messages still don’t arrive. This guide walks you through which channel to use for each detail, why it matters, and what documents you’ll need.
Why Your Phone Number Matters So Much

Your phone number is the fastest way Malacca Securities can reach you with trade confirmations, settlement notifications, and one-time passwords (OTPs) for login.
If your number is outdated, you won’t receive SMS OTPs when you log in to M+ Global or M+ Online, and you’ll be locked out of your account. Worse, if something unusual happens with your account, the compliance team tries to call you and can’t. Update this first.
Understanding the Two Systems: M+ Broker Account vs. CDS Account
This is where people get confused, so let me be direct: you have details recorded in two separate places.
M+ Broker Account (M+ Online / M+ Global): Held by Malacca Securities. This is where your login credentials, phone number for OTPs, and email for statements live. You update these through M+ support or the client portal.
CDS Account (Central Depository System): Held by Bursa Malaysia. This is where your Central Depositary nominee account is registered. Your legal name, address, and bank account for dividend payments are stored here. You update these through Bursa Anywhere or by visiting Bursa in person.
Both systems need to match, and both take time to update. Start with both at the same time.
Updating Phone Number and Email — M+ Support Route
Your phone number and email are broker-side details, not CDS-side. Contact M+ support directly.
- Log in to M+ Online or M+ Global (use a device where you still have access to your old phone number for OTP, or ask M+ support to send OTP to email temporarily).
- Find the Account Settings or Profile menu—the exact location varies between M+ Online and M+ Global, so ask support if you can’t find it.
- Update your phone number and email in the fields provided.
- You’ll receive a confirmation email. Confirm it within the time limit (usually 24 hours).
- Turnaround is usually same-day to next business day.
If you’re locked out and can’t log in, call M+ support directly. They can verify your identity using your IC number, account number, and recent trades, then manually update your details. This takes 1–2 business days.
Updating Address and Bank Account — CDS Route (Bursa Anywhere)
Your address and bank account for dividend payments are stored in your CDS account, not your M+ broker account. You update these through Bursa Anywhere or in person at Bursa.
Using Bursa Anywhere (online, fastest):
- Go to the Bursa Anywhere portal (www.bursaanywhere.bursamalaysia.com) and log in with your CDS username and password.
- Select “Update Particulars” or “Manage Account Details” (exact wording changes).
- Update your residential address and/or bank account details.
- Upload a clear photo of your updated identity document (IC or passport) if address has changed.
- Submit and wait for confirmation email. Bursa Malaysia usually processes this within 3–5 business days.
Updating Bank Account: If you’re changing the bank account where dividends are paid, Bursa needs a clear photo of your bank book cover or a signed letter from your bank confirming the new account is yours. Do not send a screenshot; send an actual photo or letter.
If You Prefer In Person: Visit the Bursa Malaysia office in Kuala Lumpur with your IC and the updated address proof (utility bill, tenancy agreement, or bank statement dated within three months). Bring a bank book or letter confirming your new bank account. Processing is immediate, but you must visit during office hours.
Updating Address on Your M+ Broker Account
Ask M+ support whether your address is also held on the M+ side. Many brokers keep a copy for correspondence. If it is, submit the updated address along with proof—a utility bill, tenancy agreement, or council letter. M+ will update it within 1–2 business days.
Always update both CDS (Bursa) and M+ (broker) to avoid mismatches that can delay corporate actions or dividend payments.
Documents You’ll Need
| Detail | Document Required |
| Phone number | None (tell M+ support the new number) |
| None (confirm via link sent to new email) | |
| Residential address | Utility bill, tenancy agreement, or bank statement (dated within 3 months) |
| Bank account (for dividends) | Bank book cover photo or signed letter from your bank |
Common Mistakes to Avoid
Only updating M+ and forgetting Bursa: Your address and bank details on CDS stay unchanged. Dividends go to the old account or mail goes to the old address. Update both.
Sending screenshots instead of photos of documents: Bursa and M+ support won’t accept screenshots. Take a clear photo of the actual document with good lighting.
Trying to change CDS details through M+ Online: You can’t. M+ doesn’t control your CDS account. Only Bursa Anywhere or a visit to Bursa can change those.
Not confirming the email verification link: M+ sends you a link to confirm your new email. If you don’t click it within 24 hours, the change rolls back. Check your spam folder.
Assuming same-day updates: Phone and email through M+ are fast (1 day), but CDS address and bank account through Bursa take 3–5 business days. Plan ahead if you need these for a corporate action.
Key Takeaways
- Phone number and email are M+ broker details; update them through M+ support.
- Address and bank account are CDS details; update them through Bursa Anywhere or in person at Bursa Malaysia.
- An outdated phone number blocks SMS OTPs and trade confirmations—fix this first.
- Always provide proof of address (utility bill or tenancy agreement) when updating; take photos, not screenshots.
- M+ updates take 1–2 business days; Bursa updates take 3–5 business days.
- Update both systems to avoid mismatches in dividends and corporate actions.
